MotionPlay Rechargeable Interactive Dog Ball

Unpredictable movement that gives curious dogs something new to follow

An ordinary ball stops being interesting the moment it stops moving.

The MotionPlay Rechargeable Interactive Dog Ball changes that familiar pattern. Once activated, its internal movement system automatically rolls, shakes and bounces the ball across the floor, creating a changing target for dogs that enjoy watching, investigating, pawing and chasing moving objects.

Instead of travelling in one perfectly predictable line, the ball changes its movement as it plays. A built-in LED adds a visible cue, whilst an obstacle-response sensor is designed to reverse or redirect the ball when it encounters furniture, walls and other objects.

Two selectable interaction modes allow you to vary the play programme according to your pet’s response. This gives you a simple way to introduce a different style of activity without throwing the ball repeatedly by hand.

Powered by a built-in 300 mAh rechargeable battery, the compact ball offers up to approximately three hours of operating time after around one hour of charging under the stated maximum conditions.

It is a practical addition to a supervised indoor enrichment routine for appropriately sized dogs that enjoy movement-based play.

When passive toys no longer hold their attention

Many dogs investigate a stationary toy for a few moments and then walk away.

A conventional ball normally depends on a person to throw, roll or bounce it. Once it comes to rest against a wall, beneath a chair or in the middle of the floor, the interaction ends until someone moves it again.

The MotionPlay Ball creates its own motion after activation. Its combination of rolling, shaking, directional changes, bouncing movement and LED illumination gives the dog several changing cues to observe.

This can be particularly useful for:

  • adding variety to an indoor play routine;

  • encouraging a curious dog to investigate a moving toy;

  • providing a supervised chase target during short activity sessions;

  • rotating between different toys so the same object is not presented every day;

  • creating an additional form of play when outdoor conditions are unsuitable;

  • giving owners a way to participate by guiding, restarting and redirecting the activity;

  • offering movement-based entertainment without repeatedly throwing a ball across the room.

The toy is designed to support play and engagement. It does not replace walks, training, exploration, sniffing, contact with people or the other forms of activity required by an individual dog.

Automatic rolling, shaking and bouncing

The internal mechanism creates several types of movement rather than relying on a single constant roll.

Depending on the selected mode, floor surface and surrounding space, the ball may:

  • roll forwards;

  • alter direction;

  • shake or vibrate in place;

  • move in short bursts;

  • bounce against the floor;

  • reverse after meeting an obstacle;

  • pause briefly before moving again;

  • travel in a less predictable path than a manually rolled ball.

This variation is central to the toy’s appeal. A ball following exactly the same route can quickly become easy to anticipate, whereas changes in direction and movement give the dog something different to watch and follow.

The precise path cannot be predetermined. Movement will vary according to floor texture, available space, contact with furniture and the way the dog touches or redirects the ball.

Two selectable interaction modes

The MotionPlay Ball includes two operating programmes:

Normal Mode

Normal Mode activates the ball’s standard automatic movement sequence.

This setting can be used when you want a straightforward supervised session in which the ball begins moving after activation. It allows the dog to observe the rolling, shaking and bouncing behaviour and become familiar with the toy’s sound and motion.

Smart Mode

Smart Mode provides an alternative interactive movement programme.

It changes how the ball behaves during the session, giving you another pattern to test according to your dog’s interest and play style.

Exact timing, pause intervals and activation logic may vary between production batches. Follow the operating instructions supplied with the individual unit when selecting or changing modes.

Neither mode should be assumed to suit every dog immediately. Begin with short sessions and observe which programme produces curious, comfortable engagement rather than fear, frustration or excessive excitement.

LED illumination adds another visible cue

The integrated LED illuminates when the toy is active.

This light works alongside the ball’s physical movement, creating an additional point of interest as it travels across the floor. It may make the operating status easier for the owner to see and can add visual variety to play in normally lit indoor spaces.

The LED is an attention cue rather than a room light, safety light or vision aid. It is not designed to illuminate a dark floor or make unsupervised night-time play appropriate.

Do not shine the illuminated area directly into the eyes of people or animals. Stop using the toy if the LED cover becomes cracked, loose or damaged.

Obstacle-response movement

A built-in motion sensor is designed to help the ball react when it encounters an obstruction or confined area.

When contact is detected, the movement programme can reverse or redirect the ball instead of continuing to push in precisely the same direction. This helps maintain variation and may reduce the number of times the ball remains stationary against an ordinary wall or piece of furniture.

The feature should be understood as obstacle response rather than complete room navigation.

The ball:

  • does not map the room;

  • does not detect every small object;

  • does not identify stairs or drops as a person would;

  • cannot guarantee that it will escape every corner;

  • may still travel underneath furniture;

  • may become trapped between closely positioned objects;

  • may be blocked by cables, curtains, deep rugs or clutter;

  • cannot prevent a dog from carrying it into an unsuitable area.

Prepare the play area before switching the ball on and remain close enough to intervene.

Compact and lightweight construction

The supplied specification lists the ball at approximately:

  • Diameter: 4.5 cm / 1.77 inches

  • Weight: 74 g / 2.61 oz

This compact format allows the internal mechanism to redirect the ball and makes it relatively light for smaller pets to investigate.

However, the word “small” does not automatically mean that the toy is suitable for every small or medium-sized dog.

A ball should be too large to fit completely inside the individual dog’s mouth. If your dog can close their mouth around the whole ball, attempt to swallow it or carry it so deeply that it becomes difficult to retrieve, this product is not an appropriate size for them.

Do not rely solely on breed, age or body weight. Dogs of similar external size can have very different jaw and mouth dimensions.

Because visually similar production batches are sometimes advertised as approximately 5.2 cm rather than 4.5 cm, the physical diameter of the received item should be checked before first use.

PC and TPR construction

The specified materials are:

  • PC — polycarbonate

  • TPR — thermoplastic rubber

These materials form the ball’s electronic body and rubber-like outer contact surface.

The textured exterior helps distinguish the toy from a smooth household ball and provides surface variation for pawing and controlled mouthing. The construction is intended to surround and protect the movement mechanism during normal interactive play.

The ball is not indestructible.

It is not designed to function as:

  • a dedicated chew toy;

  • a teething toy;

  • a tug toy;

  • a dental-cleaning product;

  • a fetch ball for repeated forceful impact;

  • a toy for aggressive or destructive chewers.

No toy material should be described as universally chew-proof. Dogs with strong jaws, persistent chewing behaviour or a habit of dismantling toys may damage the outer material and expose internal parts.

Remove the ball immediately if your pet begins concentrating on crushing, tearing, peeling or chewing through it rather than following its movement.

Rechargeable 300 mAh battery

The ball contains a rechargeable battery with a stated capacity of 300 mAh.

Under the maximum conditions supplied for this model:

  • approximately one hour of charging supports up to three hours of operation;

  • no disposable batteries are required;

  • a USB Type-C charging cable is supplied with matching versions of the product.

The three-hour figure is a maximum advertised operating time rather than a guarantee for every session.

Actual runtime may vary according to:

  • selected interaction mode;

  • frequency and intensity of movement;

  • LED operation;

  • floor resistance;

  • repeated collisions or direction changes;

  • battery age;

  • charging source;

  • ambient temperature;

  • how long the toy has been stored;

  • normal variation between individual units.

The operating time may gradually decrease as the rechargeable battery ages.

Designed for short, supervised play sessions

Although the stated maximum battery life is up to three hours, the toy does not need to be used for one uninterrupted three-hour session.

Shorter sessions make it easier to:

  • observe your dog’s behaviour;

  • prevent excessive excitement;

  • notice tiredness;

  • inspect the toy between uses;

  • keep the experience novel;

  • stop before the dog becomes frustrated;

  • protect the ball from prolonged chewing;

  • prevent repeated high-speed turning on slippery flooring.

Allow the dog to take breaks, drink water and move away whenever they choose.

Some highly motivated dogs continue chasing even when tired. The owner should end the session when the dog needs rest rather than waiting for the battery to run out.

Best used on a clear, level indoor floor

The ball’s movement depends heavily on the surface beneath it.

It is most likely to move effectively across a dry, clear and reasonably level indoor area. Suitable performance may be achieved on:

  • smooth hard floors;

  • short-pile rugs;

  • closely woven carpets;

  • other stable surfaces that do not obstruct the mechanism.

Performance may be reduced on:

  • deep-pile carpet;

  • thick blankets;

  • loose fabric;

  • uneven flooring;

  • heavily textured mats;

  • grass;

  • gravel;

  • sand;

  • wet surfaces;

  • floors covered with clutter.

Hard flooring may make the motor, vibration, bouncing and surface contact more audible. The toy should not be advertised as silent or guaranteed to produce little noise because sound varies substantially between flooring types and rooms.

A low-pile rug may reduce some contact noise, although it may also change the ball’s speed and movement.

Prepare the play area first

Before activating the toy, remove or secure:

  • electrical cables;

  • charging leads;

  • fragile decorations;

  • glass objects;

  • food and water bowls;

  • loose curtains;

  • shoes and clothing;

  • small items that could be swallowed;

  • unstable furniture;

  • objects with sharp edges;

  • children’s toys;

  • access to stairs or open drops;

  • gaps beneath furniture where the ball could become unreachable.

Close doors where necessary to create a controlled area.

Do not activate the ball near a staircase, balcony, swimming pool, open fire, heater, road, moving vehicle or any other environment where uncontrolled movement could become dangerous.

The obstacle-response sensor is not a substitute for preparing the room.

Choosing the right dog for this toy

The supplier describes the ball as suitable for small and medium-sized dogs. Actual suitability depends on the individual animal.

It may be appropriate for a dog that:

  • cannot fit the whole ball inside their mouth;

  • enjoys following or pawing moving objects;

  • interacts without attempting to destroy every toy;

  • can play on a stable, non-slip surface;

  • remains comfortable around motorised movement and light;

  • can be supervised throughout the session;

  • responds well to short periods of indoor activity.

It may be unsuitable for a dog that:

  • can swallow or deeply mouth a ball of this diameter;

  • is a powerful or persistent chewer;

  • immediately crushes or dismantles toys;

  • becomes frightened by sudden movement;

  • guards moving toys aggressively;

  • becomes excessively aroused by chase games;

  • has difficulty stopping once excited;

  • has an injury or condition that makes rapid turning unsuitable;

  • is playing on a slippery or unstable surface.

If you are uncertain whether movement-based play is appropriate for a dog with mobility, joint, neurological, visual or behavioural concerns, seek individual advice from a veterinary professional or suitably qualified behaviourist.

Not automatically suitable for every puppy

Puppies often explore objects with their mouths and may chew intensely during teething.

Before allowing a puppy to interact with the ball:

  • confirm that the complete ball cannot fit inside their mouth;

  • inspect the toy for loose or damaged sections;

  • introduce it whilst switched off;

  • activate it at a distance;

  • keep the first session very short;

  • prevent concentrated chewing;

  • remove it as soon as the session finishes.

The product is not a teething aid and should not replace a puppy toy designed specifically for chewing.

Listed for cats as a secondary use

The supplied compatibility information also lists cats.

Some cats may enjoy watching, stalking or pawing a moving ball, whilst others may prefer quieter toys or movement controlled directly by a person.

For cat use:

  • confirm that the ball is physically suitable for the individual cat;

  • introduce it whilst switched off;

  • activate it from a comfortable distance;

  • provide an open escape route;

  • never place it inside a closed carrier or confined space with the cat;

  • keep it away from water bowls, stairs and elevated surfaces;

  • supervise the entire session;

  • stop if the cat appears frightened, stressed or frustrated;

  • remove the toy if the cat begins biting or damaging the outer material.

The toy should supplement—not replace—appropriate social interaction, climbing opportunities, scratching surfaces, rest areas and other forms of feline play.

Introduce the movement gradually

A confident dog may approach immediately, but another may need time to understand that the ball is harmless.

A gradual introduction can make the first experience more controlled.

Stage 1: Introduce it whilst switched off

Place the clean ball on the floor without activating it.

Allow your dog to look at and sniff it at their own pace. Do not push the ball towards their face or place it directly in their mouth.

Stage 2: Reward calm investigation

If appropriate for your dog, use calm praise or a small reward when they investigate without becoming overly excited.

The purpose is to create a relaxed association rather than force immediate play.

Stage 3: Move it manually

Roll the switched-off ball a very short distance by hand.

This lets the dog see it move without the motor, shaking or automatic directional changes.

Stage 4: Activate it at a distance

Switch the ball on several feet away from the dog.

Give them enough space to observe and retreat. Do not block their escape route.

Stage 5: Keep the first session brief

Allow only a short initial period.

Stop whilst the dog is still comfortable instead of waiting for fear, frustration or exhaustion to develop.

Stage 6: Increase gradually

If the dog remains relaxed and interested, extend later sessions little by little.

A dog that hides, freezes, repeatedly retreats, barks in distress or refuses to re-enter the area should not be forced to continue.

How to use the MotionPlay Ball

  1. Inspect the ball. Check the outer material, central control area, seams and charging section for cracks, punctures, loose pieces or signs of chewing.

  2. Confirm the size is appropriate. The entire ball must not fit inside the animal’s mouth.

  3. Prepare the room. Remove cables, fragile items, loose fabrics, small objects and access to stairs or other hazards.

  4. Choose a stable surface. Use a dry, reasonably level floor with enough grip for controlled movement.

  5. Make sure the charging connection is closed. Do not use the toy with a cable connected or the charging section exposed.

  6. Place the ball on the floor. Do not activate it whilst holding it directly beside the animal’s face.

  7. Select the desired mode. Follow the control sequence supplied with the individual unit to choose Normal or Smart Mode.

  8. Allow the movement to begin. Give your pet space to observe the rolling, shaking, bouncing and LED light.

  9. Supervise continuously. Watch both the animal and the area around the ball.

  10. Redirect chewing. If the dog settles down to crush or dismantle the ball, switch it off and replace it with an appropriate chew toy.

  11. Provide breaks. Stop before the dog becomes exhausted, overheated, frightened or excessively excited.

  12. Switch off after use. Do not leave the active ball moving unattended.

  13. Inspect it again. Check for damage that may have occurred during the session.

  14. Clean and store it. Wipe away saliva and surface dirt before storing the ball somewhere inaccessible to pets.

Supervision remains essential

“Interactive” does not mean “safe to leave alone”.

The ball contains an electronic mechanism, rechargeable battery and separate material sections. Damage caused by chewing could expose components that should never be swallowed.

Remain close enough to stop the session immediately if the dog:

  • attempts to fit the whole ball into their mouth;

  • holds it deeply at the back of the mouth;

  • begins crushing the shell;

  • peels or tears the outer material;

  • repeatedly throws it against hard objects;

  • carries it towards stairs or water;

  • becomes possessive or aggressive;

  • begins panting heavily;

  • slips during sudden turns;

  • appears frightened or distressed;

  • stops moving normally;

  • shows signs of tiredness.

Remove the toy completely after the session. Do not leave it on the floor as an unrestricted chew object.

How to charge the ball

  1. Switch the ball off.

  2. Remove it from the pet’s reach.

  3. Allow it to cool if it has just completed an active session.

  4. Check that the ball and charging connection are clean, dry and undamaged.

  5. Open the charging section according to the supplied instructions.

  6. Connect the supplied USB Type-C cable carefully without forcing the plug.

  7. Connect the cable to a compatible, reputable USB power source.

  8. Place the ball on a hard, flat and dry surface whilst charging.

  9. Keep it uncovered and away from bedding, curtains, paper and other flammable materials.

  10. Monitor the charging process.

  11. Disconnect it when charging is complete—approximately one hour under the supplied specification.

  12. Close the charging section completely before returning the ball to the play area.

Do not activate or give the ball to a pet whilst it is connected to the charging cable.

Do not leave it continuously charging, charge it overnight or charge it whilst nobody is present.

Stop charging and discontinue use if you notice unusual heat, swelling, deformation, smoke, a strange smell, hissing, cracking or damage around the charging connection.

Charging expectations

A one-hour charge and three-hour maximum runtime should be treated as approximate values.

A shorter runtime does not necessarily indicate a fault. It may result from:

  • a more active movement setting;

  • greater resistance from carpet;

  • frequent obstacle contact;

  • repeated bouncing;

  • incomplete charging;

  • a low-output or incompatible power source;

  • cold or hot storage conditions;

  • natural battery ageing.

If operating time falls sharply, the ball becomes unusually hot or charging behaviour changes significantly, discontinue use rather than opening or repairing the battery compartment yourself.

Cleaning after play

The ball may collect saliva, loose hair, dust and light surface dirt during use.

Because no verified waterproof or submersion rating has been supplied, clean it as an electronic toy rather than washing it like a solid rubber ball.

To clean:

  1. Switch the ball off.

  2. Disconnect every charging cable.

  3. Wipe the outer surface with a soft, slightly damp cloth.

  4. Use a dry cloth around seams, the control area and charging connection.

  5. Remove hair caught in the external grooves using your fingers or a soft dry brush.

  6. Wipe again with a clean dry cloth.

  7. Leave the ball switched off until every surface is completely dry.

  8. Store it in a clean, ventilated location away from the pet.

Do not:

  • place it in a sink, bath or bowl of water;

  • rinse it beneath a tap;

  • submerge it;

  • place it in a dishwasher or washing machine;

  • use bleach or disinfectant unless specifically confirmed safe for the materials and electronics;

  • apply solvents, alcohol-heavy cleaners or abrasive products;

  • insert pins or sharp tools into the charging opening;

  • use a hairdryer or direct heater;

  • reconnect the cable whilst any part remains damp.

The claim that similar-looking products are “easy to clean” should not be interpreted as confirmation that the complete electronic ball is washable or waterproof.

Inspection before every session

Check the toy carefully for:

  • cracks in the PC body;

  • cuts, splits or punctures in the TPR material;

  • sections beginning to peel;

  • enlarged gaps between parts;

  • loose central components;

  • exposed wires;

  • damaged charging connections;

  • sharp edges;

  • unusual battery swelling;

  • deformation;

  • a burning or chemical smell;

  • changes in motor sound;

  • unreliable switching;

  • excessive heat;

  • liquid inside the body.

Stop using the ball immediately if any damage is found.

Do not cover cracks with adhesive tape, glue the outer surface back together or allow a pet to continue playing with a damaged unit.

Frequently asked questions

Does the ball move by itself?

Yes. Once activated, the internal mechanism produces automatic rolling, shaking and bouncing movement.

Its route will vary according to the selected mode, floor surface, surrounding objects and contact from the pet.

What is the difference between Normal and Smart Mode?

They are two alternative interaction programmes that change the ball’s operating behaviour.

The available product information does not reliably establish one universal timing sequence for every production batch. Follow the instructions supplied with the received unit when changing modes.

Does it need an app?

No confirmed application is required for this model. It operates using the controls built into the ball.

Does it include a remote control?

No remote control is listed.

Does the LED stay illuminated?

The LED activates as part of the operating system. Its exact lighting sequence may depend on the selected mode and individual production batch.

Will the sensor stop it from getting stuck?

The sensor is designed to reverse or redirect the ball after it encounters some obstacles.

It cannot guarantee escape from every corner, narrow gap or area beneath furniture. The owner must prepare the room and remain available to retrieve or redirect it.

Can it detect stairs?

No confirmed stair or drop-detection system has been supplied.

Block access to staircases, landings, balconies and other drops before switching the ball on.

Is it suitable for medium-sized dogs?

Only when its physical size is appropriate for the individual dog.

A compact ball of approximately 4.5 cm must not be used if the dog can fit the whole toy inside their mouth. Many medium-sized dogs may require a considerably larger ball.

Is it suitable for large dogs?

Its compact diameter is unlikely to be appropriate for many large dogs because of the risk that the complete ball could fit inside the mouth.

Choose a larger toy designed for the individual dog.

Can puppies use it?

Only when it is too large to swallow, the puppy does not attempt to destroy it and an adult provides continuous supervision.

It is not a teething toy.

Can cats play with it?

Cats are included in the supplied compatibility information. Suitability still depends on the individual cat’s size, confidence and play style.

Introduce the ball gradually and provide space for the cat to retreat.

Can my dog chew the ball?

The dog may briefly mouth the ball as part of supervised interaction, but it is not designed for prolonged chewing.

Remove it immediately if chewing becomes the main activity.

Is it suitable for aggressive chewers?

No. An aggressive or determined chewer may damage the TPR exterior or PC body and expose internal electronic components.

Is it indestructible?

No pet toy is indestructible, and this product should not be presented as chew-proof.

Inspect it before and after every session.

Does it clean the dog’s teeth?

No. It is an interactive movement toy, not a dental product.

Does it dispense treats?

No. This model does not have a confirmed food or treat compartment.

How long does the battery last?

The stated maximum is up to approximately three hours of operating time.

Actual runtime depends on mode, movement intensity, floor resistance, battery age, temperature and charging conditions.

How long does charging take?

The supplied estimate is approximately one hour.

Disconnect the toy when charging is complete and do not leave it charging continuously or overnight.

Can the dog play whilst it is charging?

No. The toy must be switched off, removed from the pet and kept on a stable dry surface whilst connected to the cable.

Is it waterproof?

No verified waterproof or water-resistance rating has been supplied.

Keep the toy dry and do not immerse, rinse or use it in rain.

How should I clean it?

Switch it off and wipe the surface with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Dry it fully before charging or reactivating it.

Do not wash it beneath a tap or submerge it.

Does it work on carpet?

It may move on closely woven or short-pile carpet, but performance will vary.

Deep or loose carpet can restrict rolling, reduce speed or stop some movement.

Will it scratch hard floors?

No universal floor-compatibility guarantee has been supplied.

Test the ball in a small, inconspicuous area and check both the toy and flooring for trapped grit or damaged edges before use.

Is the ball silent?

No. The internal motor, vibration, bouncing and contact with the floor can produce audible sound.

Hard floors will usually sound louder than softer surfaces.

Can I leave my dog alone with it?

No. Supervision is required because the dog could damage the toy, swallow a loose component, become overexcited or carry it into an unsuitable area.

Does it replace a walk?

No. Interactive indoor play can add useful variety, but it does not replace appropriate walks, sniffing, training, social contact or species-appropriate exercise.

What should I do if my dog is frightened by it?

Switch it off and move it away.

Reintroduce it gradually whilst stationary, then manually roll it a short distance before attempting another powered session. Never force a frightened dog to approach or chase the ball.

Why does the ball move differently on different floors?

Surface friction affects speed, direction and bouncing.

A smooth floor offers less resistance, whilst carpet, rugs, gaps and uneven surfaces can slow or redirect the ball.

What should I do if it becomes damaged?

Stop using and charging it immediately.

Do not allow the pet to continue playing with a cracked, punctured, swollen, deformed or partially dismantled electronic toy.

Make indoor play less predictable

The MotionPlay Rechargeable Interactive Dog Ball takes the familiar shape of a ball and adds something a passive toy cannot provide on its own: continuing, changing movement.

Its automatic rolling, shaking and bouncing give curious dogs a target to observe and follow. Two selectable modes help vary the session, the LED adds another visible cue and the obstacle-response sensor helps redirect the ball when it encounters ordinary objects.

With a rechargeable 300 mAh battery, compact PC and TPR construction and up to three hours of stated maximum operating time, it offers a reusable way to add movement-based variety to supervised indoor play.

Choose it only when the diameter is appropriate for your pet, prepare a clear play area, supervise every session and remove the ball as soon as play finishes.

Used responsibly, it turns a stationary ball into a changing activity that invites your pet to watch, investigate, follow and play.
